Launched in 2009, Princeton's Bridge Year Program offers newly admitted undergraduates the opportunity to defer enrollment and spend a year abroad, with University support, serving a local community in another country while being fully immersed in its language, customs and culture.
Application to the Bridge Year Program is open to students who have accepted Princeton's offer of admission and have formally indicated their intention of enrolling at Princeton University. Applicants who are chosen for the program are placed with a host family and are assigned a volunteer position; placement areas include health, education, environment and economic development.
For the 2014-15 academic year, participants in the Bridge Year Program will be placed in communities at program sites in Brazil, China, India, Peru and Senegal.
